Ponoi River Camp is the sole fishing operation on the world's most prolific Atlantic salmon river, offering an exclusive wilderness experience that combines record-breaking salmon fishing with comfortable camp accommodation on the Arctic tundra. Accessed only by helicopter from Murmansk, the camp sits on the banks of the lower Ponoi River amidst a landscape of tundra, birch groves, and crystal-clear pools teeming with Atlantic salmon. The operation has been running since the early 1990s and has refined its program to deliver consistently outstanding fishing while maintaining the catch-and-release conservation ethic that has kept the Ponoi's salmon runs healthy.
The camp accommodates a limited number of rods per week, rotating guests through over sixty miles of river on named beats that have been producing salmon for decades. Experienced guides pole boats to the best pools each day, where anglers Spey cast through holding water that may contain dozens of fresh-run salmon. The take rate on the Ponoi is legendary — double-digit days are common during peak weeks, and the quality of the fish is exceptional, with bright, ocean-fresh salmon averaging ten to fifteen pounds and multi-sea-winter fish exceeding thirty pounds taken regularly.
Accommodation is in heated cabins and tents along the riverbank, with meals prepared by a dedicated camp chef using a combination of imported provisions and locally sourced ingredients. The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, with anglers gathering in the communal dining cabin each evening to share tales of the day's fishing over dinner and drinks. The midnight sun provides endless casting light, and many anglers fish well past midnight during the peak of the Arctic summer.
“Does anyone travel that far? Seriously?)) Well, as far as I know, all sorts of rich people fly there by helicopter, I don't understand them at all, typical men, well, ok.”
“BEAUTIFUL!!! And the fish are caught!”
