Laxa i Myvatn Lodge is a refined Icelandic fishing lodge situated alongside one of the most productive Atlantic salmon and brown trout rivers in the subarctic world. The Laxa i Myvatn flows northward from Lake Myvatn through a volcanic landscape of lava fields, geothermal springs, and tundra grasslands, carrying nutrient-rich water that supports an extraordinary biomass of aquatic insects and the large, well-conditioned trout and salmon that feed on them. The river is divided into beats, and rod access is tightly controlled, ensuring that each angler fishes water that receives minimal pressure throughout the short Icelandic season.
The lodge itself is a contemporary Nordic structure built with local materials, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the river and the surrounding volcanic terrain. Guest rooms are appointed in the understated Scandinavian style that Icelanders execute so well: clean lines, natural textiles, and geothermal underfloor heating that keeps the interior warm against the subarctic evenings. The dining program takes full advantage of Iceland's culinary renaissance, with Arctic char, lamb, and foraged ingredients featured prominently.
Fishing on the Laxa demands precision. The river's clarity exposes every flaw in presentation, and the brown trout — some exceeding six pounds — are among the most selective dry-fly targets in the Northern Hemisphere. The Atlantic salmon fishing begins in late June and peaks through July and August, with fish averaging eight to twelve pounds taken on small flies swung through the river's lava-carved pools. The midnight sun extends fishing hours to near infinity, and it is not uncommon for anglers to find themselves casting at two in the morning under a sky that never fully darkens.

“Great location on a hill, so you have the perfect view for the northernlights. Nice spaceous room and bathroom, comfortable bed, very clean. Friendly staff. Northernlights were visible from the hotelroomwindow which was great. Food in their restaurant is (as everywhere in Iceland) expensive but very delicious. They have happy hour at the bar with also a nice view. Would go back there without hesitation.”
